Editing Blog: Creating A Filter

To start my editing process, I imported all of my video clips from my phone to my computer. I opened up iMovie and upload all of the videos into a new project; along with the videos I uploaded the music I needed. I arranged all of the clips in the correct order and made sure the audio was the correct length for the entire music video. After this, I wanted to add a filter to each section of the music video. I tried out some of the filters from iMovie but wasn't liking any of them. So, I tried to use the camera roll editing on my computer but it wasn't working. Due to this, I had to edit the clips on my phone and import them into my computer again. This set me back an hour or so in editing. Thankfully, I usually play around with the camera roll editing options so I decided to use my own filter. This same week I had found a template for an "indie" filter so I placed the settings in my phone's camera roll editing and started trying different lightings and contrast.

My plan was for the video to gradually get less colorful as the girl grew older. I was able to create a bright, child-like, indie filter for the parks scenes at the beginning of the video. For the second half of the video, which is set near the rides of the flea market, I still wanted something colorful but not as bright. To do this, I decided to lower the Shadows option on the filter I had created and raise the Warmth option. For the final clips, that are set back in the park, I still used the same "indie" filter but added cooler tones to it. From the original filter, this time I lowered the Warmth option which created a light blue tone on the videos. I also completely got rid of the Vibrance setting I was using to make the scenes more realistic. I tried telling a story through the filters I set. I wanted to show, that as a child we see the world with lots of color and light. We think the world is extremely magical and happy. As we grow up the world isn't sad, but it is not as colorful as how it was when we were children.
