Genre Research: Bird Box

In the movie Bird Box, key thriller elements are found throughout. There are various types of high angles,

low angles, over the shoulder shots, and closeups that occur in this film. These angles/shots are all used

throughout thriller films to either indicate vulnerability of the victim or to emphasize one’s reaction towards

the situation. Birdbox also contains multiple different camera movements throughout the film. Such camera

movements include: Tracking/Pan and the handheld camera movement. These elements contribute to the

suspense and tension of the movie by illustrating that the character is being followed or watched and also

by creating a greater sense of immediacy for the audience. The various settings of the film also provides a

sinister and mysterious feeling as it focuses on deserted, distant spooky locations. Other elements such as

knives and scissors used as props and the sound which was mostly diegetic was used thoroughly

throughout the film. An element that appealed to us from Bird Box was how relatable some of the character

s were. Each character reacts in their own way but all portray the instinct that many of us would feel in a

situation like that. Most of them show shock and fear, and go to any means necessary to survive how they

can. Another element we enjoyed was the settings used. The movie begins with panic, as people are

trying to figure out what is happening and what the creatures are. As the movie continues, and much of the

population is wiped out the settings become desolate and free of man made items. The contrast of the

settings as the plot develops is one of the most appealing aspects of the movie. The element that did not

appeal to us from Bird Box was the violence. Many things like, a woman smashing her head into a window

and another woman walking into a burning car are shown in just the first few minutes of the film. Exposing

audiences to violence and gore so early on can turn them away from the movie. It can also cause fear that

lasts for weeks or even months. Another element that does not appeal to us from the movie was that

many things were up for interpretation. The antagonists of Bird Box are never shown, because of this and

the multiple ways that these creatures cause the characters to react it is not known what they are. This

leaves them up to interpretation on what the creature truly is and the power it can hold over the characters.

The most noticeable being editing and background sounds. The editing allows the audience to become more engaged with the commercial and the product. The contrasting colors of each shot are a perfect example of this editing. The background music creates the fun, playful atmosphere of the commercial and adds excitement. Finding Fonts

 Once I returned from my trip, there was a time we were not filming. I took advantage of this and began looking for fonts that would fit our opening sequence. I am editing on iMovie, so I looked into the fonts that are offered on there. I couldn't find any fonts that matched the ideas we had previously come up with. I spoke with my group about the font issue, and we looked into other editing platforms. It turned out that iMovie was the easiest place for all of us to edit. So, I became more open minded about the fonts that we had on iMovie. I started experimenting with the different fonts. To do this, I selected one of the clips from what we had previously filmed and put it into iMovie. Once there, I uploaded the clip into a new project and made sure it was the correct length to display the title. Then, I went to the title and fonts option and tested many different fonts. Commercial Planning

  1. Props - The commercial is about Nintendo Switch the main prop will be the Switch and the Joy-Cons. Other props will include the Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch dock, a high speed HDMI cable, the Joy-Con grip, headphones, and the AC adapter.  2. Costumes - The commercial will include three people. The three subjects will be wearing casual everyday clothes. The outfits will most likely be t-shirts or sweatshirts, jeans and leggings, and sneakers.  3. Schedule 10/21/20 - Decide what I will do the commercial on and begin researching for it.
