Creative Critical Reflection

Image
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions and how does it represent social groups or issues?      One of the main conventions of indie music videos is telling a story, which is why I chose to follow the same idea. I created a storyline that is easy to follow and aligns with the lyrics of the song. Creating this story was the most difficult part of the process because I had to make sure the story was completed in the assigned time frame. However, I did challenge some conventions by deciding to edit my video in a brighter and more colorful style. Most indie music videos use color but in darker tones. I decided to take a different route in order to represent the world seen by a child. The people that are most likely to identify with the music video are indie music lovers. Since indie music is based more on originality than having fame, the fans are similar. They are open to more interpretations of the same song, in hopes of learning something new. I als...

My Music Video

Image
The music video was the second project that I worked on alone. This time around, I knew a lot more about editing and filming. Also, now that I had a bigger time frame and more scenes I was able to be even more creative. Even though, I had more experience with editing, I still ran into a few problems. Especially with creating specific filters for each part of my music video.      This being my second project, I think my work improved a lot. I am very pleased with how the music video turned out. However, I do know that there is still room for improvement. Looking back at the video, I could have created a more noticable difference between the filters. I could have used different transitions as well. I would have also liked the car scenes to have a different lighting, since the current one is not the idea I had in mind originally. Apart from that, I think you can see the growth of my editing skills within my music video.      Although I used my kn...

Editing Blog: Creating A Filter

Image
To start my editing process, I imported all of my video clips from my phone to my computer. I opened up iMovie and upload all of the videos into a new project; along with the videos I uploaded the music I needed. I arranged all of the clips in the correct order and made sure the audio was the correct length for the entire music video. After this, I wanted to add a filter to each section of the music video. I tried out some of the filters from iMovie but wasn't liking any of them. So, I tried to use the camera roll editing on my computer but it wasn't working. Due to this, I had to edit the clips on my phone and import them into my computer again. This set me back an hour or so in editing. Thankfully, I usually play around with the camera roll editing options so I decided to use my own filter. This same week I had found a template for an "indie" filter so I placed the settings in my phone's camera roll editing and started trying differen...

Filming at the Swap Shop

Image
For my second day of filming I went to my local flea market which is called the Swap Shop. I was only filming one sequence here so only one outfit was needed. Originally I was going to film in the arcade within the main building of the flea market, however there were some mechanical rides outside that were operating so I also filmed there. I went early in the afternoon and my mom and my sisters helped with filming. First, we filmed me and my sister walking away from my mom. This scene shows that the girl is growing up and becoming more independent. We filmed this scene by the entrances to the main building of the flea market. It took us a few tries since there were people walking past so we had to wait for the right moments to film. Next, we filmed an over the shoulder shot of me walking out ot the mechanical rides. This was much easier to film since the camera was much closer to me and people appearing in the background was not an issue. I had p...
