Filming at the Park

Image
I decided to film at the park first because I had the most scenes there. I took all of the outfits that I would need for the different scenes. My mom and one of my friends went with me to the park to help me film. Unfortunately, the park that I had originally planned to film at had been closed due to the pandemic. I searched many different parks and finally found one that was open. However, there were no traditional monkey bars, which were needed for one of my scenes so I had to improvise. The first things I shot were the opening scenes. I was dressed in a childish outfit, wearing jean shorts and a colorful t-shirt. First, I filmed on the swings, I positioned my friend and told them the angle that I wanted the shot and then I sat on the swing and we proceeded to film. We shot from two different angles to have a different backgrounds and lightings. Then, we shot on the monkey bars. Once again I instructed my friend on how I wanted the scene to look and we also s...

Planning Storyboard for my Music Video

Image
Establishing a narrative that was clear and aligned with the song was my biggest struggle when creating the storyboard. I had many ideas that aligned with the song but I knew that telling a story within the video was vital. Since the song is titled Kids, I wanted to follow a kid or a group of kids growing up and missing their childhood. With current times, I decided it would be best to focus on one character. The storyboard follows a young girl and the way she sees the world as she grows and changes. The first boxes show the innocence of childhood and how bright and carefree it is. The next four boxes show the girl growing up and gaining some independence, in this case being allowed to go out with friends. However the ninth box shows that with her independence also comes responsibility. The final three boxes show the girl all grown up with many responsibilities, like driving. However she still reflects on her childhood wishing she had embraced and enjoyed it while sh...

Planning for my Music Video

Image
 1. Song Title - Kids by Current Joys. The song was released in 2016. 2. Props - The music video will be a girl growing up and losing her imagination and true happiness due to real life setting in. The start of the music video will be at a park. No extra props will really be needed for these scenes. As she grows her interests change, so then the arcade scenes will be shown. Again, no further props except a drink/slushie and a phone will be needed.  3. Schedule  11/18/20 - Solidify idea for music video and create storyboard. 11/22/20 to 11/29/20 - Film all scenes for music video during Thanksgiving break. 12/01/20 to 12/03/20 - Begin the editing process for the music video by uploading all of the shots and making sure they are the correct length. Also make sure the coloring for each shot is correct. 12/05/20 to 12/06/20 - Finish any final editing that needs to be done and make sure everything is how I want it to look.  4. Location List - Arcade area of the local flea ...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
My music video is with the song Kids by Current Joys. Current Joys is in reality 28 year old Nick Rattigan, who has been releasing music under this name since 2013. His music falls under the Indie Rock genre. Rattigan is also part of a band entitled Surf Curse that was formed in 2013.       Conventions of this genre are more limited compared to Pop or Hip hop. Indie music videos commonly involve the artist doing a live performance. The main focus is the artist and them doing what they love. This allows the audience to interpret the song however they want. The indie genre is very focused on the art that each person creates rather than looking for fame or success.      Another popular convention for indie music videos is narrative style. This type of music video usually still includes scenes of the artists themselves at a live performance but provides a story to match as well. It can also be a full story without the artist at a live ...

Introduction to the Music Video Project

Image
For this music video project, I decided to work alone. I'm doing this because I believe it will be more beneficial for me to work alone. Working with other students can be distracting for me as it is easy to get sidetracked. Working alone is also going to help me have more creative freedom. I will not have to sacrifice an idea because of the idea of someone else. Scheduling will not be any issue either. I will be able to work at my own pace and film on the days I am able to. I can organize the video the way I want without worry that another student may not like it. Overall, it allows for more creativeness from my part and allows me to grow in my editing and filming skills. Also, with the current pandemic I prefer to work alone and with the help of my family members to prevent any spread of the virus.     The song I chose is Kids by Current Joys. I chose this song because it's about growing up. It clearly speaks about how childhood is full of imagin...

Creative Critical Reflection

Image
       1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?                The commercial uses multiple different things to make it enjoyable. The most noticeable being editing and background sounds. The editing allows the audience to become more engaged with the commercial and the product. The contrasting colors of each shot are a perfect example of this editing. The background music creates the fun, playful atmosphere of the commercial and adds excitement. Background music connects visuals with audio in order for the audience to achieve a more engaging viewing experience. The groups of people to most identify with the commercial is the gaming community. It is also likely to appeal to younger age groups and the high technology community and industry.      2. How does your product engage with the audiences AND how would it be distributed as a...

My Nintendo Switch Commercial

Image
This commercial was the first major project for class and I also did it on my own. I had never filmed or edited anything before. I ran into struggles when in came to putting the commercial together. My biggest challenge was adding the background music and audio. I had to make sure that the audio flowed smoothly and went with the theme of the commercial. This project has taught me a lot about editing.     For this to be my first commercial, I believe I did a good job. However, now that I look back on it, there is room for improvement. The commercial shows off the product well but I think that it could have told a story. This would have engaged audiences a lot better than now. I would also have shot the scene with the other two participants differently. The scene should have been more interactive with the participants. It would have  shown the excitement and fun that the participants are having.     I have learned quite ...

Editing Blog: Creating a Voiceover

Image
First I uploaded all of the videos into iMovie, and then placed them in the correct order. Then I made sure all of the clips combined were no more than the 30 seconds allowed. Once they were in the correct order I had to create a voiceover for the closing scene of the commercial. I had never done a voiceover before so I did have to research on how to create one. I selected the closing clip, which was the animated Nintendo Switch logo, and then clicked on the microphone option. I recorded myself and the other two participants saying Nintendo Switch. However it was not loud enough to go over the closing scene. I then decided to record a video of the voiceover on my phone of the participants and I and uploaded to the computer and iMovie. Once I uploaded I detached the audio from the video and placed it over the closing scene. Since the audio was detached from the original video I was able to delete it and keep the audio.       Next, I want...

Filming Blog: My House

Image
On Saturday October 31st, I began filming my commercial. I began with filming the zoom in shot of the Nintendo Switches because the other 2 participants had not arrived yet. I set up the Switches on my dining room table and made sure the background was clear of any unneeded items. The Nintendo Switch was in its dock and was the central point of the shot. The Nintendo Switch Lites were set up next to the dock. Filming this shot was difficult because I was not able to keep my hand steady for the zoom in. After 15 minutes I was able to get used to the zoom in and prevent any shakiness.      A few hours later the participants arrived and we began filming the rest of the shots. We began with the starting shot of the commercial. Since I was not able to go to my sisters house we filmed this shot in my others sisters room to compensate. We set up the shot in one of the corners of the room. I sat on the bed and the Nintendo Switch box was in front o...
